LiveonRelease Biography

The genesis of LiveonRelease has its form in guitarist Brittin Karroll. Karroll started playing bass at age eight before moving onto guitar at age 12. Her father Peter was a rock band manager, so naturally Brittin had the lifestyle in her blood. Before the age of 15, she had been a roadie and assisted at various music showcases and industry events. Wanting to form a rock band in her hometown outside of Vancouver, Karroll received a demo tape from Collette Trudeau, a school mate. Karroll was instantly impressed and, from there, the two placed ads in The Georgia Straight, a Vancouver-based entertainment weekly, looking for bandmembers. Felicity "Foxx" Herst saw the ad run in the paper a few weeks consecutively and, screwing up the courage, responded and was accepted into the fold. Herst was friends with Leah Emmott, a drummer, and the band was complete.

After performing around the area, LiveonRelease received the attention of Bif Naked while playing along with 12 other bands in Vancouver. She immediately wanted the band to join her label, Her Majesty's Records. In 2000, the band entered the studio to record its debut album, Seeing Red. The album's first single, "I'm Afraid of Britney Spears", was extremely popular and was released on the Dude, Where's My Car? soundtrack. LiveonRelease performed across Canada and in some select cities in the United States. In 2002, the band returned to the studio and school to complete both the school year and its sophomore album. The band's name is taken from a basketball term, a sport which Karroll enjoys.
