Album Milestones by Miles Davis Review
Quite a few albums have been released of Miles Davis live performances from the 1950s, many of them in the bootleg category. This particular album is of strong interest because, in addition to a forgettable 1953 version of "I Got Rhythm" that is dominated by the scatting of Joe Carroll, there are three tracks with Davis's otherwise undocumented quintet of 1957 (featuring the great tenor of Sonny Rollins) and three numbers by the 1958 quintet with John Coltrane, Bill Evans, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones. Not as essential as his studio albums, this recording still has more than its share of strong moments.Review by allmusic.com
