Skyhearts | Robert Carty

Album Skyhearts by Robert Carty Review

Robert Carty has a reputation for being a very prolific electronic musician. Indeed, he recorded and released over 30 CDs in the '90s. Skyhearts is one of his earlier albums, and it is one of his more ambient and minimalist efforts. In the liner notes, Carty states, "(this is) deep native earth space music". That is a very cool oxymoron and an appropriate description. Carty blends a gentle symphonic synth, a melodic Native American flute, nature samples, and subtle chants to create a deep space soundscape. That scape is not outer space. This is an inner-space journey. By using the flute and chants as drones, Carty takes listeners on deep, introspective tours of the inner psyche. While this is one of his earlier efforts, it is still one of his deepest. The disc is essential for Carty's fans and fans of electronic Native American minimalism. For fans of minimalism, it is important. Casual electronic music fans can pass.
