Album The Bossa Club Night (cd2) by Various Artists Review
This double CD brings back an entire radio broadcast, the first anniversary show of the legendary Saturday Night Swing Club. The many performances are often classic, the recording quality is excellent (except for three songs by Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli that were performed live in France and are very full of static) and even the announcing by Paul Douglas is lively. Such musicians as Duke Ellington, harpist Casper Reardon, vibraphonist Adrian Rollini, trumpeter Bunny Bergian, the Raymond Scott Quintet, the Casa Loma Orchestra, pianist Claude Thorhill, the Benny Goodman Trio and Quartet, the guitar duo of Carl Kress and Dick McDonough and an impressive house band are all in excellent form. To use a cliche, it is almost like being there. One can truly feel the excitement of the swing era during this highly recommended release.Review by allmusic.com
