Album Travelling Light by Tindersticks Review

The Tindersticks' Travelling Light EP was released in 1995 a few months after their second album came out. The title track was taken from the record and is a heartrending duet between Stuart Staples and the Walkabouts' Carla Torgerson that casts the couple as a very doomy Lee and Nancy. Waiting 'Round You is a short instrumental that sounds like film music Brian Wilson might have made in 1966. The third track is a stunning rendition of Otis Redding's "I've Been Loving You Too Long". The song starts off sparsely, with just bass drums and Staples' wrecked voice, and just when you can't stand the gloom anymore, the horns and strings burst in and blow the song to the heavens above. It is an excellent interpretation of the track and foreshadows the band's dip into soul music that it took about five years after this single.
